> Is there a way to convert a VMware Server VM into a KVM VM?
Despite the fact that there are more different configs than
atoms in the universe : in general, yes :-)
Usually depending on OS of the guest, there are more or less
steps necessary.
If you would be so kind to refine your question,
maybe i can give more explicit answer.
OS type of guest, especially used hdd controller in the guest,
Thats most of the time the important question because if
u can get it boot, you're almost done :-)

At the very first beginning:
MAKE A COPY OF THE VM! :-)
With NT4 i haven't much experience,
but as a "first shot" i'd try
(still running the vm under vmware!)
to install a second virtual disk connected
to the vmware ide controller, so that winnt
knows both - the scsi and ide controller .
Then u probably have to "flatten" the vmware
diskimage (make a single disk).
Req. vmware prg is vdisk-manager.
Then u can try to boot the resulting vmdk image
with either kvm oder virtualbox to see if it works
at all...

Let us know what happens! :-)

I've not tried this yet but there's a tool to do this. You can check it out at the following link.
http://thincrust.org/tooling-conversion.html
Update: After having a second look at the link, this only converts the configuration file. The wiki provides a procedure at the following link.
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/How_To_Migrate_From_Vmware_To_KVM
Some users have reported to still have trouble using the link from the wiki though..
