Difference between VDE and tradicional networking

Hi friends, well I have a question for virtual networking in KVM.
What is the diffence between Shared physical device method and a VDE or vswitch.
I have a host KVM with some guests and this guests have a dynamic ip address. This ips have distribured by a WIFI adsl router. I would like what the difference between this and VDE???
