Good afternoon! I just found this forum and I really hope you can help me out...

I'm trying to install KVM on my Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit). I was following the instruction on this link:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Installation

After the installation (and after a reboot) and when I ran this command I got the following error.

$ virsh -c qemu:///system list

error: cannot recv data: : Connection reset by peer

error: failed to connect to the hypervisor

I have checked and I do have the libvirt-bin package installed and I do have the service running

$ sudo dpkg --list | grep libvirt-bin

ii libvirt-bin 0.8.8-1ubuntu6.2 the programs for the libvirt library

$ sudo service libvirt-bin status

libvirt-bin start/running, process 6873

Then when I check my /var/log/syslog I'm spamed with these error logs and they keep repeating...

Hi, had the same problem. I

Hi, had the same problem.

I noticed this in the log:

internal error Child process (LC_ALL=C PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin /usr/bin/qemu -cpu ?) exited with status 127

So i tried this:

sudo /usr/bin/qemu -cpu ?

Got the following response:
/usr/bin/qemu: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

After reinstalling the libaio1 and installing libaio1-dbg libaio-dev everything seems to be working fine.

It helps me a lot. Because I've encountered this kind of problem too. I'm glad I found your post.
