Virt-Manager 0.8.2: bug fixes and improved support for floppy devices

Just ten days after the 0.8.1 release comes another minor release update of virt-manager. This release is mostly bug fixes and some small user interface enhancements. The most useful of the new interface is support for ejecting and connecting floppy disks images.

The list of changes that went out on the mailing list is as follows:

  • Right click in the manager window operates on the clicked row, NOTthe last selected row. This could cause an admin to accidentally shut downthe wrong machine.
  • Running virt-manager on a new machine / user account no longer produces a traceback.
  • Allow ejecting and connecting floppy media [ NEW FEATURE]

In previous releases in order to change a virtual floppy image you’d have to remove the whole virtual device and reattach it. Then on top of that you’d have to reboot every time. Very inconvenient. This new feature allows you to connect floppy images or host physical floppy device to your virtual machine similarly to the virtual CDROM device.

Another little fix that virt-manager users will notice is that the “Resize to VM” now works properly so that you don’t get any scrollbars on the window.
