Vmware suddenly changes CEO

In some very shocking news today, Vmware suddenly replaced it's CEO, Diane Greene, with Paul Maritz as President and CEO effective immediately. The official news release can be found here. Paul Maritz founded Pi Corporation in 2003 , a company focusing on cloud-based computing which was acquired by EMC in February 2008 after which he became President of EMC Cloud Division. Mr. Martiz also brings 14 years of experience from Microsoft where he managed the development and marketing of major microsoft products.

Vmware's Stock is already losing badly on release of this news which is not surprising. Diane Greene was a founding member of Vmware with her husband, Mendel Rosenblum, who was Vmware's chief scientist. Vmware has shaped the virtualization industry and is the clear leader in the industry. How this change will impact VMware and the industry as a whole is left to be seen.
